The purpose of StandArt is to bring Nordic performance video and sound artists together during one weekend in Göteborg with the idea of showing what's happening on the contemporary Nordic art scene. Background In the mid 90s artists tried new forms of art exhibition, and some initiated and produced their own exhibition projects. Some local art projects raised great public and media attention, such as Love All at the Färg Fabriken, Update at the Turbine Hall in Copenhagen, and OneNightStand at Kunstnerernes Hus in Oslo. Common to these projects was the ambition to test the contemporary art scene by creating great event flows during a finite time period. Artists were invited to participate in staged happenings in which all kinds of media operated under the same roof. These projects saw the dawn because artists sought new and unexpected art environments, and because traditional exhibition places lost their attraction power. The artist's work, too, demanded different places that corresponded to how ideas and work create unexpected connections and encounters between work, audience, and locality. Against this backdrop with many questions about the Art Concept and the Artistic Person before the millennium shift we want to realise the StandArt Project. We aim at getting answers to some of our questions, however we also hope the project can spawn new unexpected connections and collisions between the art world and its various actors. |
